I Don't Like My Teacher! It'll happen at least once during your school life. You'll find yourself in a class with a teacher you really do not like. Maybe you'll feel picked on, or ignored, maybe you'll feel the teacher is way too strict or that you're not learning anything. It doesn't mean he or she is a bad teacher, just that their personality and yours will simply clash. So how are you going to deal with it? How are you going to survive a full school year without driving each other crazy, and even manage to learn in that class? You can start by realizing that all the whining in the world isn't going to change things. You won't get switched into another class because of personality differences. Once you come to terms with that reality you can get on with dealing with the situation. Try to focus more on your teacher's strengths. Instead of moaning about how she doesn't allow any talking in class, realize how well she explains new concepts to you. It might help to write a list of what your teacher does well, be it giving individual help, or marking essays fairly, or giving a fair amount of homework. If you have a major problem with a teacher, ask him or her if you can meet together after class and work things out. Figure out before your meeting what your key concerns are, and be willing to negotiate. Both you and the teacher must be willing to make some changes, but it will ultimately make for a better working relationship throughout the year. Be open, honest, and positive whenever you are dealing with this teacher. It won't help your cause at all to make up stories about why your homework assignment isn't done or why you are talking with your friends during his lecture. You expect the same positive communication from your teacher. If all else fails, you'll have to just "grin and bear it". With six billion people in the world, odds are you're not going to like all of them. You can always think of this as training for the day when you may have a boss you don't like!
